Replace bulky, uncompressed bitmap files with compact PNG files that retain sharp interface graphics and work naturally on websites.
Why PNG is usually smaller than BMP
PNG uses lossless compression instead of storing every bitmap row nearly raw. Screenshots, icons, diagrams, and other flat-color BMP images often shrink substantially while keeping the same decoded pixels and dimensions.
How to convert BMP to PNG
- Select supported 24-bit or 32-bit BMP files.
- Review the detected pixel dimensions before processing.
- Export lossless PNG results without sending the bitmaps to a server.
When this converter is useful
- Publish old Windows screenshots on the web.
- Reduce storage used by flat-color BMP interface assets.
Supported files and limitations
- Uncompressed 24-bit and 32-bit BMP only
- Maximum input size is 50 MB; decoded-memory limits also apply
BMP to PNG questions
Does BMP to PNG reduce image quality?
PNG encoding is lossless, so supported BMP pixels are preserved while the file will usually become much smaller.
Do these files leave my device?
No. Supported files are inspected and converted in this browser tab. Up to 50 files can be queued; up to 30 smaller files or three 50 MB files can be processed at once.
